Open Source Products and Services
Free or Fee?
Most Open Source products are free; at least in the sense that you don't need to pay a license fee in order to use them. So all of the products listed below can be downloaded direct from the Internet. However, although they all come with excellent FAQ sections in their parent sites, and there are often many other sites dedicated to their support; there is nobody you can actually telephone for help.
And that's where Bazaar Systems comes in: We can help you install these products, configure and optimise them, so you get the best performance possible.
Linux
The free Operating System. Allegedly, more reliable, more secure, and cheaper to own than Windows. I have to add "allegedly" here as Microsoft are spending a small fortune on their "Get the Facts" marketing initiative that is trying to refute this.
Firefox
One of the best examples of the power of Open Source software to reach the streets in the last few years. Its early releases got rave reviews in the press as it introduced a number of features missing in the more popular browsers.
Thunderbird
From the same stable, Mozilla, as the Firefox web browser, Thunderbird is an Email client. Or at least it was originally a pure Email client: it now has Calendaring and numerous other add-ons.
Like Firefox, the beauty of this product is that it is pretty much platform independent: it runs equally well on Windows, Linux and Macs.
