Bazaar Support - making it work

SupportLogo

The first thing you need to do is find this page on the Internet, but as you are reading this you have probably already done that!

The rest of this page is based on your using Microsoft Internet Explorer as your Browser, if you are using Mozilla Firefox click here.

First click here or on the Bazaar Support logo on the Left.

If you are using Internet explorer you will see this message appear

IE download

Click on "Run".  It will start to download a small program.  A window will appear to show the progress of the download.  After the download has finished you will get this warning message:

IE not MS

This is a Windows-generated warning telling you that running executable files that you have downloaded from the Internet is not usually a good idea.  In this case you know exactly where it has come from as you selected the Bazaar Systems Web site yourself.

Click on "RUN".

What happens next depends on the sophistication of your Security software. You are about to run a piece of software that will not only make your screen visible to someone on the Internet, but also allow then to control your mouse and keyboard.   If this were happening without your knowledge it would be very dangerous.  Your Security software should warn you about it.  The following examples are based on the Zone Alarm Security Suite that we recommend, other Security software may produce similar warnings, while other software will do nothing at all.   (If that happens please tell us!  You may need better Security software)   Also be aware that  these warnings may only appear AFTER the software has started to run, it depends on the speed of your virus/spyware scanners.

First you should get a warning that potentially dangerous software has been detected:

ZA RA warning

In this case Zone Alarm is offering to "repair" the situation, usually by quarantining or deleting the software. This is it's default action. You do not want it to do that, so in the case of Zone Alarm you change the "Repair" setting listed under Treatment to "ignore once", then click Apply.

You should see a screen like this appear:

ZA RS Ignore

This tells you that Zone Alarm is ignoring the software threat on this occasion;  but if the same, or similar, software appears again it will alert you again.

The other option to "Ignore Once" in Zone Alarm is "Ignore". This is a bad idea as it tells Zone Alarm to permanently ignore software like this.  This next time might be Bad people and not Bazaar Systems!

Finally the Bazaar Support window will appear, it will look like this:

BS-main

It is now a matter of "doing what it says on the can".

First of all call us so that we can turn on the receiving software at Bazaar Systems office.

Once you have done this we will ask you to Double-click on the "Remote Support" line in the left hand window.   The software will make a connection to Bazaar Systems computers. If you have no decent Firewall you will get no further warnings, the window will disappear and you will see a small icon appear in the lower right services tray that looks like this:

Icon Yellow

It will turn green when the remote connection has established with Bazaar Systems office.

If however you have a decent Security Firewall such as Zone Alarm you will get a number of warnings before the connection is allowed to leave your computer.

Access Warning

This warning is telling you that the software called "VNC SERVER" (the software that Bazaar Support is based upon) is trying to make an outbound connection to the Internet.  If this appeared immediately after you clicked on "Remote Support" in the Bazaar Support control window, then it is safe to let this connection through.  In this case by clicking "allow".  Again don't click the "Remember this setting" box as you want to be told about this kind of event, especially if it suddenly appears without you clicking on anything!

You may get another warning like this.

ZA KVM warning

This is telling you that the VNC Server software is monitoring the keyboard and mouse.  What it is actually doing is allowing your computer to accept keyboard and mouse information from Bazaar Systems.   Again click on Allow, but not the "apply this setting to all suspicious behaviours exhibited by this application".

Then you should get the Yellow Icon in the lower right system tray, to tell you the connection is being established, along with some pop-up notes to say the software will try for five minutes and then remove itself.

Icon Yellow

Finally, you should get the Green icon like this.

Icon Green

It will remain for the duration of the support call.   If you want to close the session prematurely Right click on the green Icon and select "Close". The Support session will end immediately.
